An on-chain researcher known as ZachXBT has revealed that users of the LastPass password manager application have lost millions of dollars in cryptocurrency to threat actors. This comes after a recent hack of LastPass, which compromised dozens of crypto users in a single day.
According to ZachXBT, on October 25, 2023, approximately $4.4 million was drained from over 25 victims as a result of the LastPass hack. This highlights the urgency for anyone who may have stored their seed phrase or keys in LastPass to migrate their crypto assets immediately.
Taylor Monahan, a developer at MetaMask, has reported that more than 80 crypto addresses owned by over 25 victims were compromised in the recent series of thefts. Monahan suggests that these thefts may be related to a larger case that dates back to December 2022.
The hacker behind these thefts appears to be specifically targeting large crypto holders. The victims include employees of reputable crypto organizations, venture capitalists, and individuals involved in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. It is worth noting that all the victims are reasonably secure and deeply integrated into the crypto ecosystem.
One striking aspect of these thefts is that there are no small victims. None of the victims lost amounts as low as $100 or even $1,000. The smallest amount stolen from any individual is well over $10,000.
